The Livewire Guide to Going, Being and Staying VeggieJuliet GellatleyA Last Word!So you’re a veggie or vegan – or about to become one! Is that the end of the story? Well, it needn’t be. What you’re doing is great and it means that no animal will ever again be killed for you. But I hope this book has also shown you that you can stand up for what you believe in and make a difference in this world. When you boil it down, the excuses people give for eating meat are just that – excuses. They say it’s natural – but we know it’s not. They say animals are well cared for and killed humanely – we know that’s untrue. They claim we need meat for good health – when the opposite is true. They even make out that the trade in meat helps the poorer parts of the world – when in fact it destroys them. (We’ve also seen what it does to the planet!) I’ve tried to explain why people are encouraged to think like this. The most important thing is that by going veggie you are taking a huge step towards changing things for the better. By giving up meat, fish and slaughterhouse products, you’re saying to the world that you care about the future. Because you’re a veggie, animals will no longer suffer on your behalf. You are saying no to starvation and helping the environment. You are caring for your own health – and taking responsibility for what you believe. Above all, you can be proud because you are doing so much when a lot of people are still doing so little. And they will learn by your example. Well done! Viva! Vegetarians International Voice for
