About Viva!

Viva! is a vegetarian and vegan campaigning group. We want to end animal suffering, protect the environment, make people healthier and feed the world. An impossible task? Helping people to stop eating animals is a great start because meat eating is at the heart of all these massive problems!

What we do

Viva! secretly films inside factory farms and slaughterhouses to show the public the cruelty behind their dinner! We launch powerful campaigns across the UK and use scientific studies to prove that eating animal products is bad for people, bad for the world and bad for animals! Our undercover reports of animal suffering are often shown in newspapers and on TV – and people change their diet because of them.

Most of the meat eaten in the UK comes from factory farms. There are no cosy barns thick with fresh straw just massive overcrowding, filth, stench and misery. Factory farming is based on rearing as many animals as possible in the smallest space. They never see the beauty of the countryside, feel sunshine, wind or rain. Most are killed so young that they are little more than babies when they’re taken to the slaughterhouse. They are supposed to be stunned before being killed by having their throats cut but stunning often fails – we know because we’ve filmed it! Some animals are fully conscious when cut, others regain consciousness while hanging by their legs, bleeding to death. Viva! wants to end animal farming and slaughter. And we’re not alone!
